Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine. We started selecting the Burgundy Whites from our beloved Domain Dubrueil-Fontaine. We are emotionally attached to this producer as it is one of the first producers we visited in Burgundy almost a decade ago and it is the one we loved the most.

Located in the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine uses the noble grape varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot noir to make up its wide range of 22 appellations : starting from the fruty Bourgogne, to the lively village, from the prestigious Premier cru to the rare Grand Cru. The domain vineyards cover the villages of Pernand-Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton and Savigny Les Beaune, Pommard, Beaune and Volnay.

We are tasting in these days only the whites of two vintages: the 2018 and 2019 and the differences between the two years are so clear and immediate to the nose. Our first impression from the first 4 whites is that 2019 had a lot more sun and we can perceive that from a stronger nose and fruity notes. And indeed I documented myself and I can confirm the big killer of 2019 is the heat. Several purist of Burgundy might find some of the wine probably a little bit too sweet. My opinion is that they are outstanding and it is great to enjoy this variation across vintages that is a beautiful characteristic of the old world wines.

Overall almost all 2019 are still developing so is worth keeping them in the bottle for at least other 6 months if not longer. Don’t get me wrong, they are still super good but if you resist and keep them in your cellar for a bit longer you’ll be rewarded.

2018 is still nice to the nose but more delicate and balanced. We feel it opens properly after you test it in full. Overall we got more floral notes than the 2019 wines.

Both vintages of the Pommard based vineyard Bourgogne Chardonnay “Les Crenilles” got us since the first sip and they will become part of our fab products. Drink now the 2018 and enjoy it with almost every dish. You can be pre-ordered the 2018 wine at a special price here to support the first shipment. We aim to deliver the wine by January 15 2021 if not earlier.

We are thinking to create a mix box of all the domain whites but the Grand Cru. You can see all the whites here. Contact us if you really want the Grand Cru as I’m keen to add a couple of 2018 to my private collection and it would be good to fill a case together.

I will update this post in the following days with more updates on the sampling  and on the products in pre-order.
