Rainoldi Grumello Riserva – Valtellina Superiore DOCG 2010

Intense ruby-colour with a grainy tendency. The aroma is subtle and long-lasting with a hint of hazelnuts. It tastes velvety and well-balanced. Additional wide range of aromas from liqueur black cherries, to violet and liquorice. Ric scents on the nose. Rich body and lots of fruit. Full body, long finish and lingering, complex, rich taste. Very modern and giving style.

Pairing

This wine matches very well with red meat, game and mature cheeses. Recommended serving temperature: 16-18°C in large glasses.

Production Area

This wine comes from a sub-area of Valtellina Superiore called Grumello that takes its name from the homonymous castle that dates back to the eleventh century. It is a red wine with lots of personality, with good well-bodied characteristics and a structure. The specific vineyard is called “Dossi Salati”, within the municipality of Sondrio.
Orientation and Altitude: South, 600 m above sea level

Soil

Gravelly-sand with sub-acidic reaction. Not very deep and with an extremely compact super cial layer.

First Production Vintage

2007. Wine only produced in the best vintage years.

Harvest Period

Between the second and third weeks of October. Manual harvest

Vintage Evaluation

This vintage shares the outstanding ageing prospect of the best years, yielding wines with a typically excellent structure.

Wine Making

Fermentation with controlled temperature maceration, with regular cycles of punching-down and pumping- over.

Ageing

In new French oak barriques over 16 months. It follows a rest in stainless steel tanks for 4 months before bottling. Bottle ageing takes place in dark, cool cellars for at least two years before before commercial release
